Get up close and personal with sea life
A full day of fun awaits you at this aptly named Sea Paradise. Apart from the aquariums, yes plural, they have an amusement park, restaurants, shopping, a hotel and a marina. This review concentrates on the aquariums. You can pay for a full day pass to visit all the facilities, amusements and attractions of the resort, or you can pay for an entry pass to their four aquariums. With young children, the aquarium pass with a side stop to the restaurants and shopping areas, filled a full day. The restaurants and shops are in the free part of the park.
What I liked most about this really well laid out resort is the Fureai Lagoon. They only allow a certain amount of people in at one time, so that everyone has a chance to get up close and personal with the sea life. They have different types of dolphins, penguins, sea lions and a walrus. You can pet the dolphin when they come close enough. You can swim with them too, but you need to book that special event. They bring penguins out for you to meet. They have a fish reef, where you can get in knee deep to the reef and feel the fish swim around your feet. This one is a big hit with the kids.
Apart from the fureai lagoon there is a dolphin aquarium, a sea farm and the main aquarium. The main aquarium holds shows with dolphins and whales among other animals. The main aquarium is also the home to the Itte Q aquarium as featured on TV. They have many different tanks, displays and aquariums over four floors. There is a huge range of sea life. In the fureai lagoon, the dolphin fantasy aquarium and the main aquarium they have areas with glass tunnels through the tanks / aquarium, so you can see the sea life swim around you.
Hakkejima Sea Paradise opens at 9 am. Its closing times depends on the time of year and day of the week. They have a full English website. Parking is plentiful, but you often have to queue to park due to the sheer number of tourists this resort attracts.
