Fun for any Anpanman loving kids!

If you are raising kids in Japan it's almost a given that they'll get hooked on Anpanman at some point in time. Ours definitely went through the Anpanman phase, and we've visited both this Anpanman museum and the one in Kobe so that they could get their Anpanman fix. I agree with Saitama's review that the venue here is better suited to the 4 and under crowd, and that corresponds with the ages my children were when we made our respective visits. My 6 year old has now well and truly exited her Anpanman phase, so I think she'd be bored now even if we took our son back. The prices are pretty expensive IMO though - they've gone up to 2200 yen per person (under 1's are still free), so it can be a pricey day out.

A must for the wee Anpanman fans

Step into Anpanman's world in this bright, colourful and fun museum near to the port and many other attractions. The museum is charged, but the mall around it is free and open to the public. The mall has a number of different Anpanman themed shops as well as some play equipment. They even hold a free show sometimes with the Anpanman characters. If you are new to Japan, Anpanman is the most popular animation for young children. The cartoon holds the Guinness World Record Holder for the most characters in an animation show. From memory it is well over one thousand characters. They may all very well be represented in the museum in one form or another, but it is only really the main characters that are highlighted in the museum and that participate in the popular "live stage". The museum is best suited to children under four in my opinion, but the mall is suited to all ages. You wouldn't need more than 3 hours in the museum. There isn't that much to play with in terms of equipment in the museum, it is more visual and prop like attractions rather than playground equipment. There are some stepping stones, a colourful 5 slide ride and a good kids room with Anpanman toys. Children under one are free, everyone else is 1500 per person. Parking is 520 yen for the first hour, then 270 yen per every extra half hour. Buggies aren't allowed in the museum, but you can use them in the mall. They have a few nursing areas and nappy changing areas. I didn't see any English information, but I wasn't exactly looking for it either! The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm.
