    Numazu Imperial Villa Memorial Park

The Numazu Goyotei Imperial Villa was built in in 1893 and used by three generations of emperors in Meiji, Taisho and Showa mostly for the summer season. It opened to the public as the "Numazu Goyotei (Imperial Villa) Memorial Park" in 1970. The entire house and the garden can be viewed from the inside. A visit is highly recommended, especially if you are interested in the history of Japan or the old imperial family. There are some really interesting exhibits to see and lots of photos. I was also lucky that I was there during the Hinamatsuri. There was an extra exhibition with lots of Hinamatsuri figures and hand-made decorations. Very beautiful! Right next to the main building is a small garden full of plum trees, which usually bloom at the end of febuary. The house also has direct access to the beach, which can be reached by a short walk through a cedar forest. The imperial family used to take long walks, especially in the summer months. On the other side of the main building there is a small cafe in the same style as the villa.
