Treat yourself to a delicious Afternoon Tea over the Tama River

Perched on the top of a cliff overlooking Tama River, the view at Rose Town Tea Garden is as pleasing as the Western Architecture of this little tea shop with lots to offer. The location is serene and relaxing. The interior is elegant with two pianos and a set up similar to an English tea room. You can eat indoors or out. Outdoors is the terrace overlooking the river. We visited mid February and it was warm enough to sit outside with our coats on, plus they have blankets you can use for added warmth. The staff are friendly, the service efficient and the menu while small is very nice with a great selection of tea. They have at least 19 variations of tea. The owners are fluent English (and Japanese) speakers. English menu. Child friendly. Car park (although small and might be difficult to get parking on a busy day). Some toys for kids.

    Charming tea house!

Tea and tea houses are woven into the fabric and culture of Japan, so it took me a little by surprise to find this hidden gem in Ome, on the outskirts of Tokyo Prefecture. Rose Town Tea Garden is every bit what you'd expect from a British high tea - finger sandwiches, soup and salad, scones, a variety of jams, and tea, naturally! They have a massive variety to choose from - including a Godiva Chocolate black tea which is heavenly (and always my first choice!). The service here is wonderful and it's a great place to get together with girlfriends for a leisurely lunch and great conversation. The only real downside here is that the parking lot is small, so when the tea house does get busy it can be a squeeze getting in and out. Try and get seating on the balcony if you can (when it's not too hot or cold) as the views are gorgeous. I would recommend calling to make a booking too - especially if you're visiting on a weekend or plan to come in a large group.
