Customize your fries
I have never been to Belgium, nor have I ever even heard of Belgian-style french fries before stumbling upon And The Friet. This chain has locations throughout Kanto, and this particular one is located on the first floor, outside of the Yokohama Vivre building. Though the shop sells a few different things, the draw is their french fries. It's their specialty. You can customize them to some degree, choosing the cut (how thick you want it), the flavor (salt, nori, etc), and the dipping sauce (regular ketchup, mayonnaise, curried ketchup, etc). They have a lot of good flavors on their menu, so you may have to visit a few times to try them all. As for the cuts, I wasn't a fan of the super skinny one because it soaked up too much oil. I think the regular cut was the winner for me. This location is small, but there is a good amount of seating. The inside seats usually get filled up (counter style) but there are tables outside that generally aren't filled. However, you do have to deal with the elements and some pesky birds if you want to sit outside. Luckily, the fries are portable in their cone-shaped packaging, so take out is a definite possibility! Prices are a little on the higher side (especially considering the portion sizes), but if you think of it as a gourmet french fry eating experience, the price starts to make sense. My only issue with this line of thinking is that, even though they present themselves as a fry specialty shop, their actual product falls a bit short. I love french fries, and while the options they give are nice, I know what I like and I know what I want in a fry. However, you can get a point card and you only need three separate visits to get a free drink! I always say that I won't be back after my visit, but somehow I have a completed point card waiting to be renewed... So, see for yourself. It's worth at least one visit.
