    Home cooking and great atmosphere

This tiny izakaya at Kominato fishing port has been in business for about 50 years. The master told me that he and his family started with onigiri for fishing folk. Onigiri and ochazuke are still a big part of the menu that you'll see tacked to the walls. The most popular dish is sangayaki, a favorite dish of fishing families in Minamiboso, the southern part of the peninsula. It's minced fish seasoned with miso and mixed with aromatics baked in an abalone shell. For otoshi, the small dishes, mom put out kinpira gobo, chicken karaage, and tiny simmered sea snails. Everything was delicious! The best part was chatting with the couple about the cuisine and local culture. Other diners, visitors like me, relaxed and chatted. It's a warm and welcoming place with great food.
