Cheaper and less busy
Kawagoe has gone really expensive in the last year, where hasn't! But you can still find a few places that are still reasonably priced. Such as Fuku Fuku, which is a desserts and souvenir shop. They are one of several places that now sell "sweet potato chips", a take-out trend started by Koedo Osatsuan. But unlike Osatsuan you don't have to queue an hour here to try this specialty. Moreover, the chips are 150 yen cheaper here. However, on taste, Osatsuan wins! Fuku fuku also sells reasonably priced snow cones and some original sweets such as a press baked sweet potato. It is primarily a take out shop. Although generally in Japan walking and eating is frowned upon, Kawagoe is a "tabe-aruki" town, which means you can walk and eat.
