Family Lodge Hatagoya is a reasonably priced hotel in the Chojahara Service Area of the Tohoku expressway. Its such a great idea and I would love to see more of them. There is another one in Sano Service area in Tochigi Prefecture, but the third one they had along the Tohoku closed down earlier in the year. They are really hard to get a booking for because they are so popular. They are so popular because, although basic, they are so convenient and relatively cheap. A family of four can stay for about 11,000 yen. If you are trying to ring to book and they don't answer the phone - they are full!
