Good food, great service
On a visit to Shibamata to see the sights, my guest from abroad who has limited experience with Japanese food had no interest in the more famous spots that serve food that doesn't meet her dietary restrictions. So we opted for Ryuki, reviews as yet unseen, as the set menus offered something that suited her. We were warmly greeted and seated and offered the menu. Note that the menu is in elegant handwriting, no English here. She opted for fried chicken and zarusoba with pickles. I had the tsukemagurodon teishoku, meal set, with a helping of marinated seaweed and pickles. It was delicious and the portions satisfying. If you look at Google Maps, the reviews from visitors from abroad are scathing. But look again - parties with members who didn't order food or very large groups who couldn't be seated in this small place with only three zashiki tables and a counter that seats about 6. We had a pleasant conversation not just with the mama-san but also with some other guests. My out of town guest appreciated the warmth and kindness of the couple that run the place.
