Lovely View
With a little free time, we decided to explore the Shimabara Castle grounds, an easy walk from Shimabara Station. (We took a bus to and from the station, which has infrequent trains toward Ihaya City.) It's free to enter the castle grounds and we didn't have much time or interest to pay and go inside the main building, or Honmaru. From inside the castle, the view is better I'm sure, but the area is elevated so there's a nice view of the ocean and surrounding area. It's not a huge space, but it was nice to look around at the sculpture gardens and enjoy the view.
