Simply stunning in autumn
One of the most beautiful places I've ever visited during Japan's autumn months is Gunma's Mizusawa Kannon. The temple has a history dating back 1300 years, and the grounds have various statues and structures for visitors to appreciate. There is also a hiking trail which leads to the top of Mount Mizusawa for the active folks out there. The temple is meant to be beautiful in any season, but I can only vouch for autumn. I highly recommend it as a beautiful spot during the leaves changing period.
