One of those places worth visiting at least once
I love Mt Takao. I definitely recommend it as a place to visit at least once. I myself have been a number of times over the years. My favorite times to visit are Autumn and New Years. However, please note, that at New Year and in Autumn the place is really busy. With good reason too. It is so picturesque in Autumn and so festive at New Year. Unless you are visiting in the height of summer, I recommend wrapping up well on a trip to the mountain. It gets quite cold up there as the sun starts to set. You can get drinks and food at the top of the mountain and there are plenty of toilets, making it a great place for a hike, even with kids.

Closest Hiking Area to Central Tokyo
I've been to Mt.Takao a couple of times. It’s recommended for beginners since it’s easily hikeable. Using trail 1,you can reach the top of the mountain in an hour and a half. What’s more, you have the option to ride on the cable car or chair lift half way through. The view on the top is stunning.

Easy hike even for beginners
If you're a beginner hiker, Mount Takao is a great place to visit. We have been here several times, including with a baby in a hiking backpack -- so you can see it's quite manageable! The views are lovely, and there are a number of things to watch out for along the way up, including Yakuo-in Temple. Definitely worth the visit if you're after an active day in the Tokyo area.
