Fureai Hiroba

The equivalent of the village square!

Fureai Hiroba is a small park in Higashichichibu village. Not the type of place I would review for its facilities alone, but it is the equivalent of the village square in this sleepy village. It is the venue for several events, including the village's red spider lily festival which was on last weekend. It is also one of the village's red spider lily spots. When I visited yesterday they weren't in bloom yet. Yes, the festival was on before the flowers even bloomed! There is a playground in the park and some sports facilities and toilets. Parking is free and on an average day is plentiful. But when there is an event on its hard to get parking. Washi no Sato, roadside station, is within walking distance.
