    Excellent Shinshu Soba Noodles

Minohisa is a popular soba shop at Tateyama's seaside. Of course, most visitors probably go to Tateyama anticipating dining on local cuisine, seafood and local produce, but if you've got time and want refreshing Shinshu soba from west Japan, this is a great spot. The dining area is very elegant and relaxing, too, with a dark but warm interior. The prices are typical of a soba shop. I had a plate of chilled soba noodles with sansai and tororo. The sansai is probably the best I've ever had in Japan. These pickled mountain vegetables were crisp, lightly tangy, and full of flavor. The tororo, grated yam was a good foil for the chewy noodles. Service was great, too. The mama-san offered an appetizer of marinated pickles that were full of umami.
