Higanbana also grow at Sakitama

I have been back to Sakitama Ancient Tomb Park many times since I wrote my first review. Including visits in autumn to see the higanbana that grow around the grounds. However, each time, I seem to miss them at their peak. This past visit I was particularly disappointed because I visited before the equinox in the hope of catching them before they wilted, yet they were already wilting. Perhaps they grow earlier here than in other locations.

Ancient Saitama

Sakitama is the former name of Saitama Prefecture Park. The Sakitama Ancient Tomb Park is a park around nine ancient tombs unearthed in the area. Excavation is ongoing and has been for many years after the first tomb was discovered. It is one of the most important tomb finds in Japan. The park is picturesque due to its unique appearance, but in spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom it is beyond stunning. There are dozens of mature cherry blossom trees in the park. It is a popular "hanami" spot. The park is quite large and it is a lovely place for a walk. The park is open 24 hours, but the facilities in the park close around 5 pm. There are two food vans that are there all year round. There are plenty of public toilets and some water fountains too. In the newer part of the park you can even barbecue.
