Michiko Nagai Former Residence 永井路子旧宅(古河文学館別館)

Historical novelist's home

Nagai was educated in Tokyo after spending her early life in Koga City. She's the author of books that later became television dramas that humanized historical figures, especially women in samurai and shogun families. The city remembers her legacy with this annex to the city's literature museum in her old home. It's a lovely restored mercantile house on a street with many remaining antique houses and shops. At first, I knew little about Nagai's works, but the shop front spurred me to learn more. The house is worth a visit to get a sense of Koga's history and culture.
