    Taiyaki in penny candy alley

Kawashimaya is one of the many sweet shops in Penny Candy Alley (Kashiya Yokocho) in Kawagoe. It has been there for many decades. They sell delicious. The taiyaki comes in different flavours such as the typical bean paste and cream options. They also have some rarely seen flavours such as cheese and chocolate. The cheese is particularly popular. The shop also sells ice-cream or soft cream as it is called in Japan. It is take out food, sold from a window kiosk, but they have a small bench out front where you can sit, or you can do what most of the tourists do and walk and eat. Kawashimaya is run by an older couple who are as kind as they are friendly. There is usually a queue here, but it moves quite fast. No cars and no parking - it is a pedestrianized street. You can use the tourist bus to get to penny candy alley or walk from one of Kawagoe stations.
