Regret that I didn't see more of it

When I first visited Ninnaji, I didn't fully appreciate this UNESCO world heritage site, part of Kyoto's rich culture. I approached the gate and thought better of going inside. I was awed by the two Nio statues, dating from the Edo era, positioned at the front gate. The Heian era temple was destroyed in the 15th century and rebuilt 150 years later, which I think gave me the wrong impression of how grand this place is. It's noted for its garden, palace, and unique late-blooming Omuro cherry trees. Still, the two Nio-sama at the gate were satisfying to my eyes. Next time I go, I will venture within the gates. It's a commitment as the admission fee is whopping 800 yen.
