I'm sure it's lovely if you like crowded places!

I like a sneaky Starbucks as much as the next person, and when I caught up with a friend in Tokyo recently they suggested we do so at the Reserve Roastery in Meguro. I'd wanted to check it out for a while and thought by now maybe the hype would have died down since it initially opened. I was wrong. It's still busy as ever, and I don't know that I'd recommend it based on that alone. Drinks were fine, cakes were fine – it's no different than if I'd get a Starbucks drink or dessert at one of my closer stores in Niigata. The building itself is cool and I liked the design of the interior, but overall I wouldn't really recommend it if you want a more laid back coffee experience.

    Beautiful setting

I like to collect Starbucks tumblers from different regions in Tokyo. Starbucks Reserve Roastery has its own version of tumbler I wanted. Visited with my friends on a Saturday afternoon. Wait time was not as long as I expected. 3 of us waited for about 15 minutes and we got in. Roastery has an exceptionally high ceiling. First floor serves Starbucks regular coffee and siphons. There is also a bakery serving pastries. Lots of people walking around with a cup of coffee in hand. Second floor serves tea and third floor has a coffee roasting area. Overall it is an excellent experience.

More than Just a Cup of Joe

Starbucks Reserve Roastery is not the place if you want to have a quick cup of Joe. It’s a place for people who want Instagram worthy posts and coffee aficionados. LOCATION: It is located just beside Tokyo’s Meguro River, which is very popular during spring for its Sakura Blossoms. Moreover, Starbucks Reserve Roastery has four floors. The first one has a bakery and the main bar where you can see baristas do their magic with coffee; then on the second floor you can have tea and other food; the third has THE BAR where you can have cocktails; and the last one is the AMU Inspirational Lounge where they usually held events. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE: Since this place is popular, expect to line up for hours. We were given a ticket and we waited for more than an hour to go inside. There is a waiting area but there are no seats. If you decide to sit on the floor, the staff will ask you to stand up. We went to the nearby DON QUIOTE to kill time. Also, when you get inside, it doesn’t mean you’ll have a place to sit on. You’ll have to look or wait for a seat to be available. There’s a lot of waiting in this place, so if you can’t deal with that then you might not have a good time. PRICE: We went to the 3rd floor since not all Starbucks has a bar, so I don’t know the prices of the other beverages, just the liquors, which was quite pricey. My husband had a whiskey, which he said was really good and I had an affogato, which I absolutely loved. DESIGN: It is quite stunning. They have few instagramable spots like a wall decorated with barrels and cups. SERVICE: As usual, Japan gives great service. The staffs are very happy when you take photos. So take as much as you can, but mind the other visitors though.
