Rustic temple on the Kannon pilgrimage route
Dojido, the 22nd temple on the Chichibu 34 Kannon Pilgrimage, gets its name from a time when people called on Kannon to cure children during a smallpox epidemic. The temple has a thatched roof, Raijin and Fujin decorating the front, and two naive sculptures of Nio, the guardian deities in the gate. It's easy to get to this pilgrimage spot from Chichibu Station. I started my pilgrimage from here. While the temples on the route are numbered, you don't have to do them in order or all in one trip.
