Off the beaten path scenery and water play
The Suzumegawa Sabo Dam Park is located in the hills of Tokigawa Town. Its an unusual landscape in that the park is tiered and separated into three parts. The lowest part, at the bottom of the dam, is a scenic area with seasonal blooms. There is an open space here where you can picnic or barbecue (although both are currently banned due to the Coronavirus outbreak). They also hold events in this area. One tier or level up is the dam itself, with an observation deck. Then you go up and down to a lovely off the beaten track stream that is suitable for wading in. The park is in theory open 24 hours and you can actually camp there if you get permission from the town in advance. There aren't many facilities. Just toilets in one area, a couple of water drinking fountains and a couple of places to sit. There are two (small) free car parks.
