Tiny diner, big portions
It’s easy to miss this tiny restaurant as it looks like a clapboard sided house. You know it’s the right place because you’re greeted by a clowder of cats, some of whom will sneak in on the pretense of escorting you. It’s a mom and pop operation with felines. The diner is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner - usually 7–9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. -2 p.m., and 5p.m. to midnight. For otoshi, I got served a bowl of squid and potato salad. I ordered the daily teishoku, set menu, for ¥800 yen, expecting the typical. I got four large pieces of crispy fried fish, cabbage salad, buta kakuni simmered pork, daikon pickles and soup. This meal was much better value and much tastier than anything comparable in a mainland Tokyo diner. Locals told me it’s also a great place to try shimazushi, the soy sauce marinated local dish.
