Really Fun Little Museum, Great for Kids

On a little island across a bridge from half of Ishinomaki City sits a weird little building that looks more like a space ship. This is the Manga Museum Mangattan, celebrating the work of Shotaro Ishinomori, the mind behind Kamen Rider and Cyborg 009. I went in having never seen any of the celebrated works and expecting a meh experience that might be fun for my kid. What I got instead was genuinely enjoyable. While there isn't a lot of English in the museum pieces, most of them don't need explanation. There are two interactive games that my kid and husband both thoroughly enjoyed including a kinect-style Kamen Rider fighting game and a Kamen Rider motorcycle driving game. Both were big hits with my family. We were too late to enjoy the restaurant on the top level and only got to peek into the library for a minute, but it really looked like a place where you could burn through half a day easily with a kid or two. There was even a small movie theater where they showed short features. The one we watched even had English subtitles. The gift shop on the bottom floor had a good variety of offerings at decent enough prices. There were tons of great places to take pictures both inside the building and in front of it.
