Highly recommend visiting for the Wa No Akari summer event

While I've never stayed at Hotel Gajoen (maybe one day!), I can recommend it from an events standpoint. I highly advise visiting when they host their "Wa No Akari x Hyakudan Kaidan" event, where numerous lights and lanterns are on display - for instance, they showcase pieces from the Aomori Nebuta Matsuri and Nagasaki Lantern Festival to name just a couple. It's a really beautiful event and typically held around the summer timeframe.

Get Spirited Away in this opulent hotel brim with history

Widely believed to be part of the inspiration for Ghibli's Spirited Away, the Hotel Gajoen in Tokyo is one of the most opulent hotels I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. The hotel oozes luxury and impresses with its stunning architecture, fascinating history and cultural heritage section. Even the toilets are a sight to behold with a red moon bridge in them. Parts of the hotel are open to the public. They have a selection of eateries that are open to the public too. The place is very popular for weddings due to the scenery and it is said it is the first hotel to offer a complete wedding package with ceremony, banquet and even bridal wear included. The average price quoted is the price to stay, but you don't have to be a guest to attend events, eat or simply walk around (free parts of) the hotel. In February and March annually they have a Hina Matsuri display of dolls. That is hosted in the protected part of the building that is famous for its 100 steps and tiered rooms with intricately carved pillars and ceilings.
