Wetlands, trails, and wild bird habitat
Just a few minutes' walk east of Tokyo University of Science Noda Campus you'll find Risokai Memorial Nature Park. On your walk, you'll see many signs indicating that the roads don't go through. Keep walking! You know you're going in the right direction when you see stands of bamboo, meadows, and brooks. It's about 13 hectares with forests and ponds. When I was there, I heard a lot of birdsong, including uguisu calling. The park attracts the kounotori, oriental storks, that are released from Kounotori no Sato, the preserve in the city. I didn't see one this time, but they're unmistakable with their huge wingspan and black and white plumage. The park doesn't have parking or toilets. Visitors walk in and depend on campus facilities.
