Dazaifu Shrine

Beautiful but commercialized

I enjoy visiting shrines and temples across Japan, but Dazaifu left me feeling a little underwhelmed. It was a beautiful shrine, but it was really designed in a way that felt super touristy. Ironic, I know, since I was there as a tourist, but I dubbed it the selfie stick shrine because it seemed everyone there had a selfie stick. The walk up to the shrine was also filled with touristy stores and even a Starbucks, so I guess it just felt commercialized. If you bear this in mind when you visit maybe you won’t be a little underwhelmed like I was. If you have a shrine stamp book they will do that here for you for a small donation.
