One of Kanazawa City's tea house districts

Higashi Chaya, the tea house district is remarkable for its stone pavers under your feet and the streetscape that has remained unchanged since the Edo era. You can either stroll and just soak up the atmosphere or drop in for tea at one of the chaya. You might catch a glimpse of the geisha going to and from appointments.

A wonderfully preserved district in Kanazawa

If you love traditional streetscapes that have the step back in time feel to them, the Higashi Chaya District in Kanazawa is a must. This area is one of my favorite spots in all of Japan to just stroll around, and there are a range of tea stores, retail stores (check out some of the gold leaf wares!) and more. Highly recommend this spot for anyone at all in Japan - it's a gem!
