    Oil Painting Exhibit

This was my first time to the Kurume art museum in the Ishibashi Cultural Center. The main building held a short term exhibit with paintings from around 100 years ago by artists Ryusei Kishida and Sadao Tsubaki. Entrance tickets included the permanent exhibit with a history of the Bridgestone company and it's founder, Ishibashi Shojiro. (A photo of the poster made during celebrity Ayase Haruka's visit to the Bridgestone Plant is in the gallery. There was also a video she's featured in playing in the lobby.) The show was shown in several rooms on the second floor, but photos were not allowed. I enjoyed the wood block prints of book illustrations and covers in addition to the detailed paintings. From the break room, there's a nice view of the gardens and pond. Titles were shown in Japanese only. In the permanent collection building, audio tours were included. It was my first time to use those, and there was an English setting available, which the staff set up for me. The displays were all in Japanese, so they didn't compliment the English audio tour so effectively. For anyone who can't read Japanese at least a little, it would be hard to follow. The setting of the museum within the cultural center makes it a great space to have a refreshing walk and picnic in the same outing. There are rest areas in both museum spaces, but signs are posted that no food or drinks are allowed.
