Montana in Miyagi: American Flavor; Homestyle Feel

I'm rounding up from 3.5 stars in this one, which is about what I would like to give them. It's not a bad place, the little slice of Americana among the rice fields north of Sendai. Elvis's greatest hits from a variety of eras greeted us from the satellite radio station playing incessantly in the background, and in some ways it did feel a little bit like a semi-rural diner in the middle of farm country somewhere stateside. The owner has a Caucasian wife but both speak English pretty well and seem to speak Japanese most of the time. It seems like a place that is frequently visited by people with closer friendships with the owners, and there is nothing wrong with that. Small towns are like that everywhere, I think. So the atmosphere is comfortable enough if you're into that sort of thing. We were alright with it and didn't feel like outsiders even though we had never met the couple before. The ribs were highly recommended and my husband wolfed them down too quickly for me to photograph them. I ordered the lamb, only because I've never actually eaten lamb. It was alright, but came with a bit more fat than I'd like, though that's par for the course for Japanese dining for me. It was seasoned well, and that was a nice change of pace. It made for a really lovely mid-day escape.
