Protective tengu at Kenchoji Temple
At Kamakura City, various high points along the valley ridges afford views of the city and even the sea on a clear day. I recommend climbing the stairs behind Kenchoji to pay a visit to Hansobo Daigongen, the protector of the temple. The route up is lined with statues of tengu, the long-nosed goblins. The spot is also a point along a hiking route that takes you along the eastern ridge of the Kamakura valley. Along the way are various temples and shrines. It's a leisurely way to experience Kamakura.
