Yamagen Mokko is an interesting spot to enjoy a meal if you're in the Tsunan area of Niigata. It's located on the second floor of a building, and the first floor is a woodworking shop with a variety of items on display. The restaurant has a variety of tasty meals on offer, including things like sansai (mountain veggies) soba, curry rice, tempura, and grilled trout, and everything seems to have a focus on colorful presentation and freshness. There are some exhibits for the Echigo Tsumari Art Triennale out this way, so keep it in mind as a place to eat if you're visiting for that reason.
