Tourist and scenic spot; Ware / Storehouse district area of Kawagoe

Ichibangai is the main thoroughfare and tourist strip in the Edo period warehouse / storehouse district of Kawagoe. Apart from being known for its Edo period buildings, it is also famed for its "street food". The street has a number of old warehouses and buildings converted into restaurants, shops and souvenir shops. It also has some more recent architecture. The electric and phone cables were moved underground two years ago, lifting the aesthetics of the area. It is a lovely area to amble along and enjoy the atmosphere, sights, smells and sounds. Most buses stop on the street except when the area is pedestrianised for festivals. The bus stop is named after the area "Ichibangai" or 一番街 in Japanese. You can walk up and down this street at anytime, and there is no fixed opening and closing times. However, each of the shops operating in the district have different operating hours and take different days off.
