Fun aquarium in Niigata City, complete with dolphin show

If you're looking for a fun and child friendly activity in Niigata City, the Niigata City Aquarium is one to check out. It's great for the little ones, with lots of interactive displays - the dolphin show in particular seemed to have a lot of families present back when we visited last summer. The marine environments that they have set up have a big focus on what you'd find in the Sea of Japan off Niigata's coast, so it's very interesting to see that "local" glimpse of marine life. Adult admission is 1500 yen, and since our children were under 3 when we visited their admission was free. Preschool aged children (4 and 5 year olds) are charged 200 yen and 6 to 14 year olds are charged 600 yen admission. This to me is pretty reasonable though, since aquariums back home are basically double this in admission fees. They are open from 9am until 5pm 7 days a week.
