Precious wild space in urban Nagareyama City

The area around Nagareyama Ootakanomori Station has undergone a dramatic transformation since the Tsukuba Express line was implemented. When you visit the station and environs, you see a dense, urban landscape with highrises and modern buildings. Walk west of the station for about 10 minutes and you'll find yourself in the ancient Ichinoya forest. It's a little over 24 acres of quiet, hilly, and varied terrain. On the edges of this urban forest are the hiroba on the west side and Ipponzakura Hiroba, a wide space with an old cherry tree with multiple trunks. The forest itself is home to 100-year-old white oak trees.
