Important Tsunami Monument
This is the type of point of interest that it's very easy to walk by and not really see, but for this area it's actually very important that we see it and remember it. While the structure is now overgrown with plant life that has had 15 years to overcome the salt water it was once soaked in, all those years ago this was a police station, a small one by the coast, and what remains of that structure shows the resilience of the materials used, referencing in some way the resilience of the people who choose to remain here. I think it's also very important to note the amount of damage and read over the signs that point out just how bad the tsunami really was because it's very easy for us to forget as time goes by how traumatic some things really were.
