Interesting history museum in close proximity to Matsue Castle
The Matsue History Museum is an interesting addition to a day of exploring the city, especially if you're headed to Matsue Castle anyway - it's just a short walk away. The displays center around the history of the city, so if you want to learn more about Matsue this is your spot. When it comes to the exhibits, all of the labels and such are in Japanese. The front reception desk do have audio guides in English if you'd like something to help you out, but to me for the most part it was easy enough to understand just by looking around. One of the coolest (and most random!) things I saw at the museum was a Lego replica of Matsue Castle! Love that they brought a bit of modernity to a history museum. Many of the displays don't allow photography, however, so do bear that in mind and keep an eye out for signage. Normal admission to the museum is 500 yen, but if you show your passport or alien registration card you'll get half price off that.
