Gorge-ous (pardon the pun)
Pardon the pun, but Kurobe Gorge really is gorge-ous. It was several years ago now that my husband and I visited there on a combined Toyama-Fukui-Gifu trip, and the scenery will leave you in awe. My only regret is that we didn't visit late enough to get the autumn colors, since it was a September timeframe trip. If I went back, I would try and time it with the peak of the autumn color as I feel it would be even more breathtaking.

There is a reason why it is officially a top 3 gorge of Japan
Having been in Japan on and off since 2000, it has been a while since I was last so overwhelmingly impressed by scenery - that mostly happened in my early years here. But Kurobe Gorge blew me away, like I never expected. I will definitely go back, probably multiple times, as we only saw a small portion of it so far and it was stunning. It is one of Japan’s three great gorges along with Kiyotsu Gorge and Osugidani Gorge. It was also selected as one of the top 100 unexplored areas of Japan. (You can find a post I wrote on City-cost about how much of the area is still unmapped on Google). Easily my biggest surprise find in years.
