    Long-established izakaya for lunch

At the north exit of Abiko Station on the Joban line, there are a few lunchtime options. I stopped to look at the signboard in front of Shoya, and a friendly staff member invited me to come in. Right away, I felt welcome! At lunchtime, the izakaya offers a dozen set menus. I went with the mini kaisendon and soba noodles combo. This set is prepared with care. The fish is super fresh, the soba broth is savoury, and the noodles al dente. The shop has counter seats with lots of elbow room for single diners, and the tables are lit by retro lamps. The place feels homey. Even better, Shoya has WIFI (login info is available at your seat). The shop is open until 11 p.m. year-round. I think this is one of my new favourite classic Abiko spots.
