Emperor Puyi's brother and his Japanese noblewoman bride
On the west side of Inage Sengen Shrine at the top of a stone wall, you'll find this small villa. The house is quite beautiful with a central garden and a mix of teahouse architecture and Taisho-era rooms. The occupants of this house in 1937 are what makes it special. The younger brother of the last emperor of China, Pujie, lived here with his bride, a Japanese noblewoman who was a relation of Emperor Meiji. Pujie picked her out of a photo book and lived here with her after their wedding in Tokyo. Pujie, a famed Chinese calligrapher and poet, composed here. Some examples of his delicate calligraphy are on display in the house. There is a photo gallery of the descendants of Pujie and his wife, Hiro Saga, along with historical documents. One lovely space in the house is the study with its frosted glass windows looking out onto the garden and a tea house beyond. Entry is free and it's right outside the gate of Inage Sengen Shrine.
