The secret den of cyclist's!
Winterland is a cafe 300 meters or so above sea level in the hills of Tokigawa near the Shiraishi pass. It is on the route of a popular and well used cycle course. The cafe isn't actually hidden, but it is hard to find. The cafe has all five star reviews on Google and after visiting I know why. It is not the food nor the view (pictured) nor the atmosphere. They all play a part, but I think the main reason is the staff. They are exceptionally kind people and from our experience they form a friendship with their customers which keeps them coming back. While we were there dozens of cyclists came and went. And they all seemed to know the owners by name. There are several bicycle racks for cyclists to perch their bikes while they refresh with a drink or a meal. The cafe doesn't open very often, so you need to check on their Facebook page to see when they will open next. And to see what food is on offer that day.
