Maybe one day as good as the other one

A new Eggs & Things restaurant opened up in the Izumi outlet mall recently. The other Eggs & Things in Sendai is located in the shopping arcade area and can be a little bit busy, So my family was really excited to try out this new place. I can't say for sure what went wrong, but it is our estimation based on how people behaved while we were there that whoever had come to set up the shop and teach the new hires went home after the first week. We figure this because what we got was a little bit subpar, especially for a weekend evening. The food was fine and came as ordered, though we did have to ask specifically for a kids menu despite walking in with what was very clearly a nine-year-old. I ordered the special pancakes of the month, which were pineapple flavored with coconut in the batter, and i found them very delicious and delightful. My husband ordered the savory special for the month and he found it very tasty as well. The plating was just fine and the kids meal was also good except that the chocolate pen exploded but cheap chocolate pens are like that sometimes. I don't think that was a fault to the restaurant. Our big faults were with the coffee. Hawaiian coffee is well known for being especially delicious and I had taken advantage of their expanded menu of coffee drinks to try out the Vienna coffee. It turns out that whatever non-cream ceamer that is frequently used in Japanese vending machine coffee that turns my stomach is also a main component of this Vienna coffee. After my body finally processed the drink which luckily came so late after the meal that I had a chance to walk out of the restaurant and walk around the shopping are before sprinting to the bathroom. My husband ordered the normal black coffee and it took until literally everyone at our table was done, including our child who would eat notoriously slowly, before his coffee finally came. The couple next to us, who sat down after us, had the same problem with their food arriving ages before the coffee even though the coffee aas a normal Kona blend black coffee. In general, it should take longer to make something like a Vienna coffee than it does to make a normal black coffee, and when you call the restaurant, Eggs & Things Coffee, the coffee should absolutely be something of a priority. It seems clear by the menu, which let go of appetizers in favor of customizable drink options in a move that feels like they're trying to be more like Starbucks or Tully's. The setting was great and the way they set up a little indoor atrium for the illusion of distance and space was admirable. I'm not exactly racing back to try eggs and things. Maybe in a couple months they will know how to do the things they need to do without sending me running to the bathroom.
