Scenic and tranquil
If you're in the Ryogoku area of Tokyo, perhaps to visit the Ryogoku Kokugikan, a visit to Kyu-Yasuda Teien is a pleasant add-on. The highlight of the garden to me is the pond area, where you can see koi and occasionally turtles swimming around -- it's such a serene scene in a busy metropolitan area. Very easy to get to on foot from Ryogoku Station.

Classic strolling garden with modern Tokyo "borrowed scenery"
Whenever I'm in the neighborhood of Ryogoku, I pay a visit to this strolling garden that originated in the Edo era. It's not terribly big, but the attention to classic garden design and the water system that recreates the ebb and flow of the river that used to feed the pond take you back in time. It's right between two attractions - Ryogoku Kokugikan, the center of sumo, and the Japanese Sword Museum. It's a great spot to take a break and absorb the culture of the Sumida River environs.

Kyu-Yasuda Teien - A beautiful Japanese garden
Kyu-Yasuda Teien is a beautiful Japanese garden closely located to the Sumo Museum and the Edo Tokyo Museum near the Ryogoku station. The garden has one entrance, a big pond and a little bridge. There are also sitting opportunities. Even though you can clearly hear the sound of the busyness inside Tokyo it is a great place to rest and relax after running around in Tokyo.
