Eiheiji Temple

Historic temple without the crowds

There are lots of good reasons to pay a visit to Fukui Prefecture (especially now that the Hokuriku Shinkansen extension has taken place), and one of those is Eiheiji Temple. It's surrounded by massive cedar trees and just has a very calm atmosphere about it, plus there are some stunning artworks on the ceiling of the main building. The small fee of 500 yen is well worth it.
