    I didn't think it was a 5 star experience

I stayed at the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel with my husband a few years ago for our anniversary - we did a weekend Yokohama trip which was pleasant. This hotel was our splurge, and whilst it was definitely nice, I don't think it was as nice as the price demanded - I've definitely stayed at nicer places for the amount of yen. There were some scuff marks on the walls, and the room did have a lovely view but the room itself didn't feel as "luxe" as a five star hotel should, if that makes sense. If I'm dropping ¥45000- ¥50000 for a special occasion, I really want it to feel like one - and I don't think this hotel did. I'd still give it four stars, but definitely not five.

Luxury hotel experience in a great Yokohama location

Really enjoyed a stay in the Royal Park Hotel in Yokohama and, to be honest, would struggle to think who wouldn’t. For yours truly the Royal Park is strictly “very special occasion only” territory but worth a bit of a splurge when the occasion warrants, and if the wallet allows. The hotel occupies the top quarter of Yokohama’s Landmark Tower skyscraper. Rooms are divided into - Suites, Sky Resort Floor “The Club,” Sky Resort Floor “The Top,” Sky Resort Floor “Atelier,” and Regular Floor. At above 50F even the Regular Floor rooms offer fab city views. We stayed on the Atelier floor and loved the (corner) room -- spacious but still cozy, amazing view from large (clean) windows), counter and seating in front of said windows, comfy beds, room controls by iPad, Nespresso machine, chaise lounge and more. The bathroom was the biggest I’ve ever seen, with a window by the bathtub, although it’s too high up to look out of when soaking in the tub. Don’t forget to take home the L'Occitane shampoos and creams! The room had a “city” view (as opposed to a “bay view,” I think) which, at this height, meant we could see all the way to Tokyo. Outside of the room, the lobby at the Royal Park Hotel is on the first floor and is high-ceilinged and airy, but not really much of a feature in and of itself. There’s a small cafe here that seems to be popular with couples taking afternoon tea. You can also find the hotel bakery (serving posh bento), bar, and one of the restaurants down on the lower floors. Actually, the Minatomirai area of Yokohama doesn’t have many options for fine evening dining, or any late evening dining really, so we ended up breaking the bank for a meal at the Royal Park’s Sky Lounge. It’s proper swish up there -- complete with a pianist tinkling the ivories -- and the food is nice (it should be for the price) but (understandable) anti-virus measures take the edge off a posh dining experience. Next time we’ll pop out for something cheaper, I think. Location-wise I think the Royal Park is in a great spot - easy access from Sakuragicho Station, perfect for strolls around the Minatomirai area, good spot for night lights and illuminations, and you’re plugged right into the shopping of Tokyu Square and Queens Square. Stretch the legs a bit more and you can be in Chinatown and the Yamashita Park area. The range of rooms and floors at the Royal Park Hotel in Yokohama means that prices start from the 15,000 yen per room per night range up to suites for 250,000 yen and more. Plan for around 30,000 yen + for a room on the Atelier floor. Again, worth it for a special splurge.
