Interesting spot to learn about Nagasaki's history

We visited here at the insistence of my husband who is a history buff, but I found it pretty interesting myself, too. Dejima was originally a small island which was used for the Dutch to trade with Japan. The area around the island has since been reclaimed, so it's just incorporated into the city right now - you'd never really know it was once an island. There are lots of historic buildings that have been preserved in the area, and inside those buildings you're able to check out some interesting artifacts. There are things on display including flowers and plants that were brought over by the Dutch, and even particular foods that were introduced thanks to their influence. Even if you're not a huge history buff like my husband is, you'll probably find at least something to interest you here.
