Memorial temple for Nichiren's parents
This small temple at Kominato Port is easy to overlook because it's tucked at the back of a narrow street. The temple was founded by Nichiren as a memorial to his parents. The name derives from his parents' Buddhist names - Myonichi and Myoren. It's not spectacular to look at, but part of the Nichiren Buddhist legacy in the town. The tiny street is lined with old houses. There is a signboard indicating the community has a preservation society for Utadaimoku, a dwindling hymn tradition.
