Saitama's oldest residence
Yoshida Folk House is Saitama's oldest residence and a "National Important Cultural Property". The property was nearly torn down 30 years ago, but a local recognized that the property was of cultural significance. Several tests followed to confirm the age of the building and the property was saved. The last residents did move out 30 years ago, but they live next door! And they preserve the property for all to enjoy. Lovely people and a really lovely place to visit. Although, it is quite out of the way and in the middle of nowhere! But the valley in which it sits is beautiful. There are books and toys for kids to play with. Best to avoid a visit in summer as there are two earthen fires that are lit all year round, even in the height of summer, as the smoke protects the thatch roof from insects.
