Scenic and very functional river
Along with being scenic, the Kurobe River is really interesting in terms of the hydroelectric power it generates! It's also one of the steepest rivers in Japan, which doesn't really surprise me much given the location. I visited here in the September timeframe several years ago, but would love to revisit late into the autumn to really enjoy the changing leaves.

Stunning scenery, very photogenic
The Kurobe River originates in the Northern Japanese Alps — specifically the high mountains above Unazuki and the upper gorge region and flows northward into Toyama Bay. We visited it in the Unazuki Onzen area. Apart from being scenic, they also utilize it too. Currently, they have a section marked off for summer events for children. There are no river rides that I know of, but what they have is almost as good: a sightseeing train that runs along the river through the Kurobe gorge. An experience of a lifetime.
