The village hub
Higashichichibu is the last remaining village in Saitama Prefecture. And Washi no Sato is a roadside station as well as an important social and functional hub of the village. Located close to Ogawa town, at the base of the mountain, it is home to the Hosokawa Papermaking House complete with thatch roof (pictured). You can make washi paper on the grounds too. Moreover, it is the only place for miles that you can buy food!
