I go for the building
Malls are a dime a dozen in big cities in Japan, so I can shop locally, but if I am in Yokohama at night I like to drop by the Bay Quarter for the view of the building rather than for shopping. It is architecturally pretty, especially at night when its lit up and you can see the building reflected in the sea. It looks quite like a ship - I believe that was the intention of the design! You can actually ride a boat from a dock on the first floor. I have not had that particular pleasure yet myself.

Easily accessible ship-themed mall
Yokohama Bay Quarter is an easily accessible ship-themed mall, and it has direct connectivity to Yokohama Station -- something I always appreciate! There are various retail stores and eateries here, including a Birkenstock shop, a nice Seria store, and Kua Aina burger to name just a few. One downside though is that the mall is fairly late to open (11am) which can be a pain if you're in the area early. 10 would be a lot nicer!

Bay views, dining, and shopping spot
Yokohama Bay Quarter is a complex established in 2006 as part of the revitalization of Yokohama City's waterfront. It's right outside Yokohama Station's east exit, and accessible via skywalks from the adjacent Sogo department store. The assortment of shops, restaurants and services are typical of a central shopping complex, but what makes it special is the waterfront views from the curving terraced building. The building and the views of Yokohama's dense waterfront, remind me of its sister city, Vancouver, with its vista of glass and lights overlooking the port. From Bay Quarter, you can hop the Sea Bass, a water bus service that hops between popular spots around the waterfront.
